Sofa & Carpet Cleaning
Sofa and carpet cleaning: Sofas and carpet are two of our upholsterers that require regular and periodic cleaning. These are heavy fabrics, and so their cleaning is labor-intensive. Many people, to avoid the expense of dry cleaning, wash them at home; but home wash of these fabrics is neither easy, nor gives a good finish. It is best to send them to a professional dry cleaner who has the space and resources to clean such heavy-duty fabrics.
Sofa Cleaning
Sofas: Generally, sofa upholstery comes in two main types—fabric and leather. Fabrics are available in huge variety; such as cotton, silk, and polyester. They can range in weight from light to heavy. They can be plain, printed, and embroidered. And the colors are infinite, ranging from pastel shades to bright prints. Leather upholstery is made of different kinds of natural hides, and also synthetic. Like fabric, leather upholstery comes in a variety of colors and designs, though not as extensive as fabric—black and tan appear to be the favorite shades.
Sofas generally attract dirt at the arms and the head rest. Stain removal from sofa can be done at home, using commercial stain removers available off-the-shelf. But for best results, dry cleaning is recommended.
Removal of stains from leather, including synthetic leather, can also be done at home using commercial stain removers, and finishing it off by buffing with clean cloth. But like fabrics, for best results it’s a good idea to get your leather upholstery cleaned professionally, depending upon its color and extent of usage.
Carpet Cleaning
Carpets. Carpets are tough to maintain. They take a worse beating than sofa covers do. The reason is that people walk over them with their shoes on, depositing the dirt from the shoes on to the carpet. In Japan, people have an excellent practice of taking off their shoes at the door and putting on rubber or cloth sandals to walk over the carpets in the house. In some regions, and among some communities in India, people take off their shoes at the door and walk barefoot inside the house. Both practices help keep carpets clean.
Carpet Cleaning Process
But this is not possible in places such as your living room, hotel rooms, and banquet halls in which the room is covered with wall-to-wall carpeting. Here is where dry cleaning of carpets is a must. Apart from removing dirt and stains on the carpets, dry cleaning also disinfects and deodorizes the fabric.
Many dry cleaners do a great job of cleaning carpets using a dual process. First they clean the carpet using steam at high pressure, and injecting certain cleansing agents with the steam. This treatment causes the steam to penetrate deeply into the carpet fiber and remove the ingrained dirt from it. After the carpet has dried, which may take days, depending upon the weight of the carpet fabric, the second process, dry cleaning, is applied. The chemical solvents used in the dry cleaning process finish the job by removing stains and oils from the carpet. After this dual process, your carpet comes out as good as new.
